In recent times, there has been more concern and awareness of people’s mental health. We are living in an age where there is an increase in innovation, and entrepreneurship is encouraged and celebrated. This may overshadow the mental strain that comes when starting a new venture.

This topic links with the discussion of men's health awareness which was highlighted last month. Looking at statistics

  • In 2018, there were 6,507 suicides registered in the UK2, and in 2019, there were 5,691 suicides registered in England and Wales. Of these, three-quarters were among men, which has been the case since the mid-1990s
  • Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women. Only 36% of referrals to IAPT (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies) are men. (ibit.ly/cVLD).

Here are ways to look after your mental health (copied from ibit.ly/4Vt0)

  1. Talk about your feelings
  2. Keep active
  3. Eat well
  4. Drink sensibly
  5. Keep in touch
  6. Ask for help
  7. Take a break
  8. Do something you are good at
  9. Accept who you are
  10. Care for others
